Vicks Road to Relief: From the Himalayas to the World
Some productions pay in currency. Others pay in connections, causes, and lasting friendships. Vicks Road to Relief was one of the latter.
This Australia and New Zealand campaign set out to tell a story that would inspire people to act, with the goal of translating product sales into millions of lifesaving vaccinations for children in developing nations. We took on the Nepal production entirely at cost to cost, not for profit, but because it mattered. Projects like this go beyond commercial filmmaking. They sit at the intersection of storytelling, responsibility, and real world impact.
Filming locations in Nepal ranged from extreme rural Indo Nepal border regions to high altitude Himalayan environments. Each setting came with its own logistical and environmental challenges, from access and transport to weather and terrain, but our team ensured the entire production remained smooth, efficient, and safe. We handled casting, location scouting, filming permits in Nepal, charters, transport, props, art direction, ARRI lighting systems, grip equipment, and full scale production logistics. At a time when technology was still evolving, we developed a custom mobile vehicle tracking system back in 2009, long before gimbals and advanced tracking rigs became standard in commercial film production.
The key creative team and directors came from Australia, while our team at Location Nepal managed every aspect of line production and fixing on the ground. Working with children, local communities, and health workers required sensitivity, patience, and trust. Our experience in NGO filmmaking, documentary production, and humanitarian storytelling allowed us to approach the project with the care it deserved while still maintaining the technical precision required for an international campaign.
Although parts of the shoot extended into Malaysia, the Nepal segment carried much of the emotional and visual weight of the campaign. From remote villages along the Indo Nepal border to the dramatic Himalayan landscapes, every location was authentic, every moment grounded in reality, and every production challenge handled with clarity and experience. This is where Nepal becomes more than just a location. It becomes the story itself.
The impact of the campaign went far beyond the screen. The original goal was simple. One million units sold would translate into one million vaccinations. The result exceeded expectations, reaching two million vaccinations. For us, this was not just about delivering a successful production. It was about knowing that the work created on the ground in Nepal contributed directly to something meaningful on a global scale.
Projects like this define what film production can achieve when purpose and execution align. From international commercial shoots and NGO campaigns to documentary storytelling and brand films, Nepal offers a unique environment where stories carry both visual power and human depth. With the right production partner, these stories can be executed seamlessly across even the most challenging locations.
Today, for brands, agencies, production companies, broadcasters, and creative teams across Australia, New Zealand, and beyond, the message is simple. If you are planning to film in Nepal, whether for a commercial, documentary, fashion campaign, tourism project, or large scale production, it can be done efficiently, safely, and at the highest international standards. From permits and logistics to crew, casting, and execution, every stage is handled with precision.
WORKING ON NGO AND IMPACT DRIVEN PRODUCTIONS IN NEPAL
Productions involving NGOs, humanitarian campaigns, and social impact storytelling require more than technical execution. They demand cultural understanding, ethical responsibility, and the ability to work closely with communities. From filming in rural villages to coordinating with local health workers and organizations, these projects rely on trust and experience on the ground.
FILMING IN REMOTE AND HIGH ALTITUDE REGIONS
Nepal offers extraordinary diversity in locations, from lowland plains to some of the highest points on Earth. Filming in these environments requires detailed planning, including transport logistics, safety measures, altitude awareness, and contingency systems. With the right line production support, even the most remote locations can be accessed and filmed efficiently.
PLANNING A COMMERCIAL OR DOCUMENTARY SHOOT IN NEPAL
If you are considering filming in Nepal, the process begins with understanding the landscape both creatively and logistically. How do you secure filming permits in Nepal. Who manages crew, transport, and equipment in remote areas. What systems are needed for working with communities and sensitive subjects. How do you ensure safety and efficiency across multiple locations. These are the foundations of every successful production.
