Flying the World’s Largest HDTV into the Himalayas – Panasonic in Nepal

When Panasonic, one of the world’s most trusted names in electronics, decided to launch their groundbreaking 108 inch Viera HDTV, they wanted a backdrop that could match the scale of their innovation. They chose Nepal, a land where cinematic landscapes meet authentic culture, and entrusted Location Nepal under my leadership to bring their vision to life.

The hero prop was a single television, yet not just any screen. At the time it was the largest HDTV in the world, and it had to be showcased in the heart of the Himalayas. The chosen location was Thini Village in Jomsom, surrounded by majestic mountains and timeless traditions. To get there, however, meant solving one of the biggest logistical puzzles I have ever faced. With no roads leading to the village, we arranged for a Russian MI 17 cargo helicopter to fly the giant HDTV to Jomsom Airport. From there, our crew carefully transported it to the set, guarding it as if it were the most precious cargo in the world.

The production itself was a vibrant collaboration. Panasonic’s creative team came from Japan, Thailand, and other international offices, while our local crew in Nepal handled everything on the ground. My role extended beyond line production into casting director, selecting local children from the community to star in the commercial. Their innocence and energy created an authentic narrative that perfectly balanced Panasonic’s futuristic technology with Nepal’s human warmth.

Every detail was managed flawlessly, from permits and art direction to safety and security for both the crew and the delicate hero prop. The result was a commercial that went far beyond showing off a television. It captured the imagination of global audiences, placing Panasonic’s innovation against one of the most dramatic backdrops on earth.

The success of this project is a reminder of why Nepal is a unique canvas for global brands. With the right partner, even the most ambitious ideas become possible. Whether it is transporting cutting edge technology into remote Himalayan villages, or staging complex commercials and feature films, our teams at Location Nepal deliver the expertise, logistics, and creative problem solving that high budget productions demand.

For brands and productions that want to merge innovation with natural beauty, Nepal offers possibilities that are unmatched anywhere else in the world. We are here to make those possibilities a reality.

WORKING WITH GLOBAL BRANDS AND COMPLEX PRODUCTIONS

Projects like this sit at the intersection of technology, storytelling, and extreme logistics. Moving high value equipment into remote Himalayan regions is not just about transport. It requires planning, permits, aviation coordination, safety systems, and a crew that understands both the creative and operational side of production.

From electronics campaigns and automotive shoots to fashion editorials, tourism films, and large scale advertising productions, Nepal has become a destination where global brands can create visuals that stand out. Whether working with teams from Japan, the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, India, Thailand, or South Africa, the process remains focused on precision and execution.

Helicopter logistics, cargo transport, remote access, and location management are often the difference between an idea and its realization. This is where experience matters.
